Top Rockingham County DWI Lawyer:  In 21st Century America it is very easy to get a DWI, DUI or Driving Under the Influence of Drugs (DUID).  People go to great lengths to avoid being charged for or convicted of such offenses.  Jon Jones was probably attempting to avoid a DUID charge and conviction when he fled the scene of an April 26th motor vehicle accident where another motorist, a pregnant woman, suffered a broken arm and wrist.  According to Albuquerque, N.M. law enforcement, Jones precipitated the accident when he ran the red light forcing vehicles with green light to swerve and collide.  Jones apparently fled his rental car, returned to recover cash money he left behind and then fled the scene again.  The charge is a Felony Hit and Run because another person was injured in the collision Jones fled without attempting to render aid or identify himself.

Top Rockingham County DWI Lawyer:  The current theory is that Jones was smoking marijuana before or during the accident since the contraband and a smoking device were left behind in Jones’ rental.  It appears that Jones’ problems stemming from his probable attempt to avoid a Marijuana DUID are just beginning.  Jones has lost his MMA light heavyweight belt, been thrown out of the UFC, lost his endorsement deals and is now facing a Felony hit and run.  This Felony carries a maximum of Three (3) years in prison.

Top Rockingham County DWI Lawyer:  According to Rob Becker, a legal analyst for Fox News, “I think he’ll get three years. Now, the judge could knock it down to two years for mitigating circumstances, but in order for that to happen he’s going to have to show that when he left the scene of the crime he didn’t think there was any reason why there would be a serious injury,” he said. “And considering he knocked the victim’s car into another car, that’s going to pretty difficult to do.”

“I would suggest that he try to get a plea bargain for as few years as possible, maybe a year, or a year and a half. And I would try to get him to stress whatever reasons he has for trying to say, ‘hey, I left the scene because I just didn’t think there was a big deal here.’”
